Do local newscasters pay attention to what they're saying? Do you?
Thanks to the lovely people at What We Know So Far, we now know that if something looks and sounds like what we're used to, we'll think it's real. The performance group put together "New News" -- a news program that looks very similar to something you'd see at 11 p.m. The only difference is nothing they say makes any sense.
Scripted with text from random SPAM emails, everyone from the news anchors to the weatherman easily flows into a speech that just never adds up. (Think SNL's "Weekend Update" on crack.) To add to the humor, the videos and graphics that would normally coincide with a news telecast never work with the "stories" that are being told -- assuming there were any stories to begin with.
This video proves that even though the TV anchors are dressed in suits and sit nicely behind desks, you might want to pay closer attention to what they're saying -- just in case it's all, y'know, fake.
